Madonna Inn - Fun with Fantasy
by Cecilia M. Miller
A first class resort with 109 rooms, each decorated uniquely with different themes and color schemes. During our recent vacation to California I chose to surprise my hubby with a night in the Caveman Suite, the most popular of the rooms offered. Let me say right away: We are not young, newlyweds or kinky, so trust me, this is quality family lodging with a sense of humor.
The Madonna Inn was started 45+ years ago by Phyllis and Alex Madonna and is a well-known landmark on the Central Coast of California. The Inn is located in San Luis Obispo, California, half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco on Highway 101. This delightful property is nestled in an area where the pace is a bit slower and time seems to be somehow more precious. The Inn is a fabulous combination of fantasy and luxury. Your every need has been thought of and your wishes are fulfilled. The rooms are clean and packed with special touches.
The property offers a cafe, an elaborate dining room, specialty shops, bakery, spa and so much more. Even the public restrooms have incredible decor and features so, whether nature calls or not, stop in and at least look around.
The Caveman Suite consists of huge rocks that create the floor, ceiling and walls of the room. Animal-print fabric covers the couch, king size bed and the curtains of the stained glass windows. With a touch of a switch you have a romantic waterfall trickling down one of the walls and the sound will prove relaxing and restful.
Oddly enough, perhaps the bathroom was the highlight of the Caveman experience. The shower is like a rock grotto with waterfalls racing over and down the rocks to bathe you. The sink is also a waterfall. And, my husband's favorite: a rock urinal with a sensor that creates a waterfall-style flushing mechanism.
Never fear, the room still has the traditional amenities of telephone, television, coffee maker, etc., for your modern creature conveniences.
Young or older, newlywed or long married, couple or family, for fantasy and fun...I recommend the Madonna Inn.
There's plenty to do and see in the area too. Some of the nearby attractions are:
Morro Bay, Morro Rock, beaches, pastures, vineyards, orchards, Hearst Castle, hiking trails, California Polytechnic State University, volcanic peaks, Montana de Oro, a very festive weekly and year-round farmer's market, Mission, butterfly reserves, and so much more.
Check out the Madonna Inn of San Luis Obispo, California on the Internet at: www.MadonnaInn.com. From their Internet site you will be able to take an e-tour through their variety of rooms to find one that satisfies your quest for adventure. Among your choices will be rock or waterfall showers, a balcony or fireplace. They even have suites that will easily accommodate large families.
What room will I choose next? Hmmm...so many choices. Maybe the Antique Cars, Buffalo Room, Captain's Bridge, Cloud Nine, Edel Weiss, Golfers, Irish Hills, Italy, Safari or Sugar & Spice, just to name a few. Yep, I plan to return many times to this well thought out and inspiring resort tucked away in the golden hills of sunny California.
